About the Project

Gympaddy is an all in one super app that brings together fitness, social connection, dating, and commerce all within a single, unified ecosystem. The app was created to simplify users’ digital lifestyles by integrating multiple everyday experiences into one seamless platform.

Gympaddy features four core modules:

  1. Gym Section – A dedicated fitness space where users can track workouts, connect with trainers, and access gym-related resources.
  2. Dating Section – A social discovery feature that helps fitness enthusiasts connect, match, and build meaningful relationships.
  3. Marketplace Section – A peer to peer marketplace for buying and selling products, including gym equipment and lifestyle items.
  4. Social Media Section – A social feed inspired by Instagram, allowing users to share moments, engage with posts, and grow their personal fitness or social brand.

The app also includes an in-app wallet to manage all transactions seamlessly across these modules from marketplace purchases to premium subscriptions.

The design challenge focused on revamping an outdated interface that suffered from poor usability and visual inconsistency. My redesign aimed to create a modern, cohesive, and user centered experience that makes navigation effortless despite the app’s complexity. The new design system emphasizes clarity, visual hierarchy, and brand consistency across every feature.

Ultimately, the redesigned Gympaddy redefines how users interact with fitness, lifestyle, and community providing a powerful yet intuitive digital ecosystem that fits into their daily lives.

Problem Statement

In Nigeria, young people are increasingly seeking platforms that combine fitness, social connection, and commerce in one place  yet most available apps cater to only one need at a time. Fitness apps focus solely on workouts, dating apps ignore lifestyle alignment, and marketplaces lack community or trust. This fragmentation forces users to juggle multiple apps for simple daily activities like connecting with gym partners, finding fitness dates, or buying gym gear.

Moreover, many of these platforms offer poor user experiences, outdated designs, and unreliable payment systems that don’t align with the realities of the Nigerian market such as unstable internet connections, local currency preferences, and the need for fast, secure in app transactions.

Gympaddy was created to solve this disconnect by bringing everything together a fitness hub, social network, dating space, and marketplace powered by a simple in app wallet that supports smooth transactions in Naira.

UX Research Summary

To better understand the needs and motivations of potential Gympaddy users, I conducted a user research study involving 10 participants within the 20–35 age range  including gym enthusiasts, fitness trainers, and young professionals in Lagos and Oyo .

Through one on one interviews, online surveys, and social media behavior analysis, I explored how users currently engage with fitness, social, dating, and marketplace platforms. The goal was to identify overlaps, pain points, and opportunities for integration.

Findings revealed that most users struggled with managing multiple apps for everyday activities  from gym tracking and dating to shopping and networking. They expressed frustration with poor app experiences, lack of trust in online payments, and the absence of a unified platform tailored to their lifestyle.

These insights and data has been presented in the graphs below and also guided the development of the primary persona, Adewale Olamide, representing a typical young Nigerian who values fitness, convenience, and community but faces fragmentation across digital platforms.

Key Research Insights

Fragmented Digital Experience
Most participants used 3–5 separate apps for social interaction, dating, shopping, and fitness. They found this scattered experience tiring and wished for an integrated, all-in-one solution.

Trust and Payment Concerns
Users expressed low trust in online marketplaces due to scams and fake listings. They wanted a secure in-app wallet with fast and reliable Naira transactions to make payments easier and safer.

Need for a Community Driven Fitness Space
Gym goers desired more than workout tracking , they wanted to connect socially, share progress, and find gym partners or like-minded fitness matches.

Demand for Simplicity and Modern UI
Many users described existing fitness or social apps as cluttered, outdated, or confusing. They preferred a clean, intuitive, and visually appealing design that simplifies navigation across multiple app features.

Justification for a UI Revamp

Using a few screens as a benchmark, i will compare the old user interface and the new one

Registration.
The old design looked old as can be seen from the input fields, visual hierarchy and the button. all these were corrected giving the app a cleaner and more modern look and feel, making sure users have the best experience

Marketplace
From the old design, the ux was lacking as there no clear categorization, a dedicated search and a distinct hierarchy to the products cards.

In order to fix this, i i revamped the whole ui making it more modern and beautiful , and i fixed the UX issue by adding a dedicated search bar, clear filters, different categorizes, and a clear sell button, i also redesigned the cards making it more pleasing and showing more information.

Gym Place
This feature lacked the feel that one would want from a gym app. an experience that not only looked state of the art but also solving a user pain points.

This was fixed by making sure user have access to all gym features right from the home page and also making it look premium in order to retain user attention

Profile
A profile screen doesn’t necessarily need to look boring, i fixed that by making it look beautiful and adding the wallet feature to make it easily accessible.
